Introducing Gaistaz - Dutch, Supernatural Doom Metal

Independent and unsigned Dutch outfit, Gaistaz (which appears to be Latvian for Ghost) describe their music as Supernatural Doom Metal and that's a fairly accurate statement. Their two-track debut EP opens with Altijd Hier, which starts with a thunderous, unsettling cacophony that sounds like the trumpets of the apocalypse ushering in Lovecraftian monstrosities from the depths of hell, before descending down into a driving, heavy and atmospheric doom metal track with contrasting drone and black metal vocals.

Track two, De Tocht Omlaag keeps the eerie vibe dialled in, while a touch more melodic than it's counterpart it still possesses the same heavy properties, fitting that this EP released on Halloween.

Gaistaz is one of those bands that you really have to hear for yourself to understand, these two tracks that basically serve as a demo are extremely well produced which is exciting. If this level of quality can be reached operating as an indie band then what they can do with a label backing and budget is sure to be outstanding.

Physical forms of the EP have been produced on cassette and limited to 66 hand-numbered copies. A digital copy can be purchased at the band's Bandcamp page.

Little more is known about the band so far, their EP rather fittingly released on Halloween and their Facebook page was only created in June 2019, however, we are certain we will be hearing much more from them over the next few years.

In the meantime, immerse yourself in their sound and stay tuned.
