Exmortus - Legions of the Undead (EP): Review

Just in time for Halloween, blackened thrash outfit Exmortus have released a fiendish new EP, Legions Of The Undead.

The five-track release sees two new original tracks that both explore the darker side of Lovecraftian and Tolkien lore, “Legions of the Undead” and “Swallow Your Soul”, these are typical of Exmortus and are well-positioned, two fine offerings ahead of any new full-length album that will tide fans over.

These are In addition to covers of the themes from iconic movies Beetlejuice and Psycho which translate well to Exmortus’s sound and offer up something a little different and a sure treat for any heavy Halloween house party.

Also to be found is possibly the most interesting track on the Ep, a rendition of the instantly recognisable Russian composition, “Night On Bald Mountain” with duelling guitars taking the place of the orchestral strings to complete a truly “metalized” version of one of the most dramatic pieces of classical music.

All in all Legions of the Undead is a fun, listenable EP to throw on as the nights draw in and the witching hour approaches, just in time for All Hallows Eve.
